Prison Pet Partnership.
Over the past 10 years Eastern Companion Dog Training has had a very positive association with the Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) which is run as part of Greyhound Racing Victoria. The Gap program is designed to find pet homes for retired racing Greyhounds after their racing careers have finished.
Continuing this assocation Eastern Companion Dog Training has recently been involved in the training of Prisoners at Durringhile minimum Security Prison near Murchison in Victoria where the Prisoners are being trained in all aspects of basic pet care and Obedience training where they are foster caring for 4 Greyhounds at a time for a period of 6 weeks. As part of this Training Eastern Companion Dog Training attend the prison a number of times with each new batch of Greyhounds that attend the prison. The photo below shows Mike, our Head Trainer, working with the prisoners at Durringhile.
We at Easterrn Companion Dog Training are pleased to be involved in this program. We have found this to be some of the most rewarding work we have been involved in, both in regards to helping out these great and vastly unestimated and misunderstood dogs as well as working with the Prisoners at Durringhile.
