Where are the dog school and puppy school classes held?

Our dog school and puppy school classes are held at Norwood Secondary College which is located on Mullum Mullum Rd in Ringwood.  Melways Reference 49 K4.  The training areas include a sealed six basketball court area with full tennis court style lighting as well as undercover areas for days of poor weather.  We train rain, hail or shine.

How much do the classes cost?

At Eastern Companion Dog Training in Melbourne we now offer two different membership levels to best fit all our customer needs.
For all our memberships levels the first lesson is free so that you can come to our training centre and participate in a class to sample all aspects of the training centre, including the techniques we use, the training staff and the overall atmosphere of the dog school.  This class is completely free of charge and obligation free.  After the free trial lesson, if you decide to join the training centre, you can choose between a Silver Membership which is a Once Off Membership Fee of $220.00 for the life of the dog and then you only pay $10.00 for each training session you attend there after. For those wishing to train two or more dogs the price of the membership for the second and all subsequent dogs drop to $110.00 per dog.  This level of membership is perfect for those seeking to gain a sound basic level of control and obedience with their dogs. Our second membership option is a Gold Membership, which for a once of fee of $600.00 entitles the gold member to train in all group classes at no further cost for the life of the dog.  This membership level is perfect for those wishing to train their dog to an advanced level of Obedience or for those who uses the training centre as an exercise area too use with their dogs on an on going basis.

When are the classes Held?

We at Eastern Companion Dog Training know how busy life can get and that is why we have no fixed courses that you must attend each week and why we make our classes so flexible. You can attend our Thursday evening classes one week and Sunday the week after, mis a week or two or attend multiple classes within a given week without any problems. We also understand that people require different things from their training so, we have designed both our class structure and payment system so that you can come and go as you please and only need to train your dog to the level you feel is appropriate.  Please see further down for full class times.  If you are attending your first class you come at either 10.00am on a Sunday Morning or 7.00pm on a Thursday Evening.

Are the instructors "Trained"?

All classes are run by fully qualified instructors who have gone through a minimum 12 month training course were they partake in at least 100 hours of on the job training at
Eastern Companion Dog Training in Melbourne. They train at least 100 dogs of varying breeds, age and gender, and they attend 12 lectures on Psychology and learning principles. Furthermore, all instructors have attended seminars by some of the leading dog trainers in the world. Many instructors have also continued their learning further and become qualified Canine Behaviourists and Psychologists. We assign many instructors to each class and provide time in between classes so that customers have plenty of opportunity to seek one-on-one assistance from their instructors.
The allocation of multiple instructors to each dog school or puppy school class enables us to provide one of the best instructor to student ratios in Melbourne's dog training industry. At our dog school and puppy school classes on average there will be one instructor to every six students within that class. This in combination with the time allocated before and after class to seek individual assistance means that the customers are provided with all the help they need.

At Eastern Companion Dog Training we believe socialising a dog is very important. As part of our dog school classes we run a separate socialisation section where we bring out all types of objects that a dog may come into contact with that may make a dog uncomfortable or anxious. We expose the dog to the object in a way that teaches the dog that the object is nothing to fear.  This of course makes the dog easier to handle in circumstances were it may come into contact with such objects as well as teaches the owner how to deal with objects that may come along unexpectedly and scare the dog.  These objects we bring to each dog school and puppy school class, include lawn mowers, whipper snipers, motorbikes, horses, cats and many, many more.  This class is included in your obedience class with at no additional cost.

A question that a lot of our dog school customers ask is "can they train their dog to "their" individual requirements not those of the other class members?"   Our dog school classes, along with our training system, allow for a lot of flexibility in the training process, allowing us to tailor the training to each customers preferences.  This also enables us to rectify behavioural problems that can become difficult for the owner to deal with. Behaviours such as jumping up, dog barking, aggression etc can all be addressed in our training classes.

 Constantly evolving:

At Eastern Companion Dog Training we believe that dog & puppy training, like almost every other profession and industry in the world, is constantly evolving and we pride at Eastern Companion Dog Training we pride ourselves at being at the fore front of this evolution.  One of the biggest areas evolving in dog training at the moment is in the equipment used in this training.  To this end all our trainers are educated in the correct technique with every varying piece of equipment used in modern dog training, and we can assist you with the correct training technique no matter what equipment you seek to use to help train your dog.   We do not specify that you "must" train with any particular piece of equipment but rather we will give you our knowledge as to the pros and cons of each piece of training equipment or technique allowing you to make an educated decision as to which piece of equipment or technique will work best for you and thus help you get the best out of which ever piece of equipment you choose.

Further to this we pride ourselves on developing techniques that are both easy for the customer to use and implement, that are quick to teach and are very gentle to the dog.
